Shore Poets Turning 20
Edinburgh’s Shore Poets is turning 20 this year, and the current committee has decided to record a CD with all the present and former Shore poets they can get a hold of. Hopefully, it will also include recordings of the late Gael Turnbull reading his work — they do exist; I heard some at the launch of his collected poems — and someone else reading poems by the late Mark Ogle.
So, en route to the poetry whispers event at the SPL today, I’ll be dropping by a wee studio in Edinburgh to record a poem (or two, depending) from The Ambulance Box. It’s a pleasure and an honour to be part of such a project. There should be quite a wide range of styles on the disc, so it’ll make for really interesting listening.
Here’s to Shore Poets and all who sail her! There are some really long-serving members on the organising group and it’s an enormous achievement to have kept a poetry reading series going that long.
