Surprise, Surprise

13/09/2011

Regular readers of this blog will recall that, last year, I tutored an online course for the Poetry School. It was a thoroughly rewarding experience (not least, but certainly not solely, because one of my students was Mark Burnhope, a highly talented poet in his 20s; as regular readers of this blog will also recall, Mark has just published a pamphlet with Salt Publishing) so I was only too pleased to accept when the Poetry School asked whether I’d be interested in tutoring another online course.

My next course is entitled “No surprise for the writer, no surprise for the reader”, which is a quotation from Robert Frost. It focuses, funnily enough, on the element of surprise in poetry and begins with the first online tutorial on 9 January 2012. More detail on the course, including the cost, can be found here. I welcome students at all levels, so come and join us.
